Mother's Day is coming.

And I frequently wonder why women beat ourselves up on the topic of parenting, no matter what decisions we make.

And every so often the debate ends up back in the media headlines.  Someone like Hillary Rosen says something stupid and insensitive and the battle is on. Or some nutjob like Michelle Duggar or the Octomom tries to defend irresponsible parenting choices by making the rest of us feel unworthy for not following in their "more is more" footsteps and any criticism is deemed anti-Religious.

There is no one "right" way to be a parent (Mom or Dad) in 2012. There is only the right way for you and your family. You make choices, some good, some not so good, and you make the best of them.   We were given free will not as a birthright, but as a responsibility. You balance time and money, opportunities and options. If you can only afford the time and resources to responsibly raise 2 kids, you probably don't have 5 or 10. You have 2 and do it as well as you possibly can.  Or you have none, and adopt a child who needs a home. Or you accept that you are who and what you are, and find other ways to be a functioning part of society.

If you have hereditary health issues, or you have reached an age where pregnancy is dangerous to Mom or likely to  result in increased risks of developmental disorders for the child, you need the right to make rational and intelligent decisions.

Yes, I know the Bible says "be fruitful and multiply" but even 500 years ago, (let alone 2000) the average life span was about 35 years. There weren't a lot of 45 year old women having their first children or kindergarten Mom's with AARP cards.

Families need the right to participate in and make decisions for their own future. I can't believe a loving and rational creator would want His people to do otherwise.

From the Smithsonian NHM

Been a while since I posted pictures here

Life and work have an awful way of intruding on the fun stuff at times.   Here are some links to pictures taken last week in DC. As you may notice, there are a couple of other photographers with me on this shoot.... my son Michael and his son Brendan.   I have managed to corrupt yet another generation.
